Mongolia - Somalia match at the world Cup in Irkutsk: 10:0!
On March 1, the official opening of group b matches at the XL world bandy championship was held at the Shelekhov stadium "Builder". The festive ceremony was held before the game of the national teams of Mongolia and Somalia. The audience was addressed by the head of the city of Shelekhova Sergey Lipin, state Duma Deputy Sergey Ten, acting Minister of sports Ilya Reznik and chief judge of the world Cup Olle Modin (Sweden), who wished the participants of the qualifying battles a fair and interesting fight.
The pleasant, almost spring-like weather was slightly complicated by gusts of cold wind, which, however, did not prevent a large enough number of fans from gathering. Selihovkin openly supported the Somali team, chanted "Somalia!"and noisily welcomed every attempt by African hockey players to conduct an attack or at least just to strike a good blow.
Unfortunately, the Somalis were clearly not good at both. In response to the starting pressure of the Mongols, they initially quickly went into a counterattack, but each time they lost the ball due to haste, they gradually began to slow down. It was clear that they simply did not have enough game practice: "unforced errors" turned out to be quite a lot, the ball was lost in the most harmless situations, often the hockey players just interfered with each other, disrupting the already rare opportunities to sharpen the game.
But the Somalis held out for a third of the first half: the first ball flew into their goal only in the 10th minute of the match, when they had their first removal and immediately followed a successful draw of a penalty, although the Mongols managed to create a lot of chances. They were also let down by their haste and lack of teamwork. Having a large number of corners, they were not able to implement any of them. Apparently, the fact that the wind was contrary to them also affected them, and this made it a little difficult to conduct attacks.
But gradually the experience and skill of the Mongolian hockey players began to tell, they completely took over the initiative, and goals fell one after another. For 30 minutes of the first half, they managed to hit the goal of the Somali goalkeeper three more times, who acted selflessly and more than once helped out his team.
The second half started again rather chaotically. The Somalis tried to attack, but during the 20-minute break, the wind only increased, and it became even more difficult to go forward. And the Mongols, on the contrary, played even more energetically and aggressively, creating one moment after another. In the 36th minute, the score was opened and the goals of the second half – 5: 0, after which the balls began to fly into the goal of the Somalis with enviable regularity.
By the last minute, the score was already 9: 0 in favor of the Mongolian team, and completed the rout with the only penalty awarded for the demolition of the Mongolian hockey player. The result is 10: 0 in favor of Mongolia.
Somalia's Abdullahi Mohamed Abdi (№4) and Mongolia's Zorigt Batgeral (№3) were named the best players of the match.
At the post-match press conference, the head coach of the Somali team Magnus Karl Erik Muir noted that they do not set serious sports goals for this championship, but they will try to gain experience and get game practice, which they lack in Sweden, where their team is based. Assessing the performance of his team, he said that not all the settings were met by the players, but there are still several matches in which they will try to show better results. The main task, the Mayor noted, is to perform better and better every time.
The head coach of the Mongolian national team jargal was not entirely happy with the performance of his players. The score of 10: 0, of course, is not bad, but it could have been much more. This was the first game, he said, so not everything worked out. The most difficult matches are ahead.
